Renewable sources of energy are becoming
increasingly attractive. What are the prospects in Victoria for sourcing
Geothermal Energy and how can it be utilised to greatest effect? Two key
speakers provided a concise overview of this growing potential for the
Cinderella of energy resources in the State of Victoria.
Jim Driscoll, Geoscientist,
DPI, has been with the Victorian Government’s Geoscience Victoria
Group for more than 6 years. He is familiar with the recent
implementation of the VIC Government’s Geothermal Resources
legislation to manage the exploration and extraction of Geothermal
Energy. Jim summarised the Government’s position and provided an
overview of the potential within the State of
Victoria.
Phil Galloway, Managing
Director, Syncline Energy Pty Ltd, has twenty years experience in
developing resource and energy projects around the world. Prior to
forming Syncline he was VP Business development with BHP Billiton
Aluminium and was closely involved with the successful BHP Billiton
merger in 2001. Phil reviewed the practical side of extracting
Geothermal Energy and utilising it for a number of projects, including
heating a resort and an abattoir.
