NSW & ACT Energy in Excellence Awards 2009
The Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle branches of the AIE are pleased to
announce the
2009 NSW & ACT Excellence in
Energy Awards
The Awards aim to recognise and reward individuals and organisations
that, in the view of a judging panel, have made an outstanding
contribution to the energy sector in NSW and/or the ACT.
Entries are now sought for the following Award categories:
Energy and the
Environment
For improving the environmental performance of the industry
Excellence in Leadership Development
For encouraging people development, such as training and
mentoring programs
Achieving More with Less
For promoting energy efficiency
Energy in Society
For contributing to policy, law and the community
Innovation in Energy Science and
Engineering
For advancing technology
Young Achievers Award
For a young energy professional who has made a significant
contribution to a project, activity and/ or the general community.
A separate entry form with specific requirements should be
completed.

Young Achievers Excellence in Energy Applicant Pack
Winners will be announced at the Awards cocktail function on Tuesday
October 6, 2009, hosted by Blake Dawson in Grosvenor Place, George
Street, Sydney.
Award winners will each receive a plaque. In the event that the winning
entry is from an individual, a cash prize of $1,000 will also be
granted.
Conditions of Entry
The Awards are open to individuals and organisations - such as a firm,
corporate body, government authority or community group - that have been
involved in energy projects or activities of particular relevance to NSW
and/ or the ACT. Only ongoing projects or activities, or those that have
been completed after 1 January 2008 may be entered.
Applicants must be members of the Australian Institute of Energy.
Non-members may also apply, provided that a completed membership form
with payment, is submitted together with the entry form.

Award winners may be asked by their award sponsor (if applicable) to
participate in limited promotional activities after the event.
The closing date for applications for the 2009 awards is COB Friday July
31, 2009.

Entry fees are non-refundable and are based on the following

Entry Requirements
Applicants are required to submit the following information:
- Completed and signed entry form
- Submission report
- Summary statement

The entry form is available for download at:

2. Submission report
The submission report should contain sufficient detail to enable the
judging panel to assess the importance, significance and value of the
work or activity to the energy sector. Information sought includes:
- background to the individual or organisation and the
project/activity
- description of the project/activity
- project/activity outputs (what has been delivered) and outcomes (how
outputs have been applied or implemented) and their significance.
Possible future outcomes can be discussed.
- contribution of other individuals or organisations to your
achievements (eg in securing sponsorships, grants, awards, etc).
- any other aspects that you feel the judging panel should
consider.
Photographs, charts and drawings may be included if desired. It is the
responsibility of individuals and organisations not to provide any
material that is confidential or commercially sensitive. The submission
report should not exceed 10 pages (excluding cover page and
attachments).
3. Summary statement
The summary statement should describe the project or activity in
sufficient detail for a non-expert reader to appreciate the significance
of the work. It will be included in the Awards Handbook and may also be
posted on the AIE Sydney branch webpage. The summary statement should be
no longer than 1 A4 page.
Judging Criteria
The judges recognise that “Excellence in Energy” covers a
very broad range of activities, including engineering, scientific
research, educational and community initiatives, large or smallscale
projects, and government and commercial endeavours, etc.
The judging criteria therefore include:
- benefits to the built and natural environment
- improvements in economic and/or environmental performance
- nature and scale of benefits to the community, including education
and awareness-raising
- contributions to energy efficiency
- improvements in energy security
- innovation, as demonstrated by new products, processes, programs,
etc
The judges reserve the right to offer more or fewer awards than
publicised, depending on the number and quality of the applications. The
decision of the judges will be final.
