Leadership in Energy

AIE Melbourne | Leadership Chats - talking resilience with Andy McCarthy

Venue: Online

Date: Tue 22 Sep 2020 @ 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Join us for a discussion about leadership during challenging times and the importance of resilience

In times of crisis leaders becomes even more important as many look to them for inspiration and solutions. The COVID19 pandemic created an unexpected economic crisis in conjunction with a deep disruption to our physical working and living environment. For the energy sector that is already going through a fundamental transition this intensifies the short and long term challenges.

In such an environment resilience is tested across all levels. As there is no one solution fits all the AIE will run a series of leadership chats to give stage to leaders in the sector with the aim of enriching the conversation from their experiences and viewpoints. We hope that this will help inspire and support the sector in being more resilient and skilful in finding ways to keep moving forward. In the first event we will host Andy McCarthy who has put Gippsland on the renewable map.

About the speaker

Andy McCarthy is the CEO of RACV Solar, with more than 20 years of experience in the Australian renewable energy industry.

A lifelong advocate for renewables, Andy is a regular on the public speaking circuit, playing a key role in developing innovative and industry-leading projects to accelerate the shift towards clean energy, electric vehicles, and a smarter grid. He also sits on a number of boards and committees in Gippsland, with a focus on regional development and leadership.

Andy has played a lead role in accelerating the energy transition in the Latrobe Valley, working with state and federal politicians, as well as the private sector, to deliver positive outcomes for regional Victoria.

In 2010, Andy founded Gippsland Solar with his wife Kelly, which grew to become one of Victoria’s largest and most respected solar companies. It was subsequently acquired by RACV in late 2019 to become RACV Solar. He has stayed on as the CEO, delivering on RACV’s strategy to become a leader in the renewable energy space.

Andy continues to push the boundaries and reimagine what a future energy grid will look like and realise the economic, employment and community opportunities that exist within this transition.
