An electricity market that is designed to be flexible and on demand requires accurate forecasting of load and generation if it is to be reliable. The most reliable forecasts are data driven and adaptive. The Australian Institute of Energy has invited leaders in Australia’s energy forecasting community to share with us their perspective of data driven forecasts and how they will shape our electricity system.
Jack Fox (introduction) – Principal Analyst AEMO
Dr Matthew Jeppesen (solar) is a Co-founder and Managing Director of Proa, which he has held since Proa was founded in 2016. Matthew has worked in the Australian energy industry since 2009. Matthew has expertise in commercial and technical modelling of energy system projects and investment decision making and has successfully delivered consultancies for companies including AEMO, Synergy, Horizon Power, Alcoa Portland, and others. Matthew completed a PhD in Physics (ANU, 2009) and is an Honorary Research Fellow at Melbourne University where he assists the Melbourne Energy Institute on its industrial engagement and innovation programs.
Bret Harper (wind) is Associate Director of Research at RepuTex, leading the company’s energy and emissions modelling team. Bret is a leading specialist in energy and climate policy and market operation in Australia and the United States. Bret has B.S. in Environmental Engineering and a M.S. in Energy and Resources from the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Rob Hyndman (demand) is Professor of Statistics at Monash University. Member of the International Statistical Institute, International Association for Statistical Computing, Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the Statistical Society of Australia. He was editor-in-chief of International Journal of Forecasting from 2005-2018. Recipient of the Moran Medal 2007. Some of Roberts most recent work involves demand forecasting for AEMO.
