AIE Perth | Rottnest Islands’ Hybrid Power System
Venue: Rottnest Island
Date: Fri 21 Jun 2019 @ 10:20am to 5:00pm
ROTTNEST ISLANDS' HYBRID POWER SYSTEM
Rottnest island is not only a great holiday spot, it’s also a fully islanded (*groan*), high renewable penetration, multi-technology hybrid micro-grid, right here in the metro area. The island was historically reliant on liquid petroleum fuels but had a 600kW wind turbine installed in 2004 and then a 600kW solar PV array added in 2017. The three generation sources are integrated with a micro-grid controller developed by Hydro Tasmania based on its experience at King Island in the Bass Strait.
Live operational data from the system is available here for those who can’t wait: https://www.hydro.com.au/clean-energy/hybrid-energy-solutions/success-stories/rottnest-island
