AIE YEP Melbourne | Latrobe Valley Tour
Venue: Monash University Caulfield
Date: Wed 15 May 2019 @ 7:45am - 5:00pm
In association with the AIE, the YEP Melbourne Network invites you to join a us on day trip to Latrobe Valley. Home to some of the world’s largest brown coal deposits, the Latrobe Valley has been at the centre of Victoria’s energy industry for decades.
The tour starts with a visit to AGL’s 2210MW Loy Yang A coal-fired power plant, which provides around 30% of Victoria’s power needs. You will have an opportunity to learn about the coal’s journey from the mine to electricity production. An AGL representative will also explain the power plant operation, recent refurbishment and control system upgrades. At the end of the power plant tour, we will provide lunch together with the opportunity to network with other participants.
We will resume the day with a bus tour around Latrobe Valley’s historic sites supported with a presentation and slide show. The local guide will provide technical and historical content on how the Latrobe Valley was transformed into an industrial region for power and energy production.
Please wear flat, covered footwear, long sleeves, and long pants and come prepared for Melbourne’s weather! Please note that places are limited. As such, prompt registration is advisable. We look forward to seeing you there!
