AIE YEP South Australia | Lunch and Learn – Hydrostor
Venue: KPMG Adelaide
Date: Thu 12 Sep 2019 @ 12:00pm to 2:00pm
The South Australian branch of the Australian Institute of Energy and the Young Energy Professionals invites you to network and hear from Greg Allen of Hydrostor.
Canadian company Hydrostor Inc. is constructing Australia’s first Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) facility at the closed Angas Zinc Mine near Strathalbyn in South Australia, for which the company has received $6 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and $3 million from the South Australian Government’s Renewable Technology Fund. The $30 million 5MW/10MWh fuel-free facility will use the existing mine to develop a below-ground air-storage cavern that uses an innovative design to achieve emissions free energy storage. The facility will provide synchronous inertia, load shifting, frequency regulation and support for grid security and reliability. Deploying A-CAES on the existing mine will help to increase renewable energy supply to the South Australian and national energy grid while also converting a brownfield site into a clean energy hub.
Greg is the Managing Director of Hydrostor and is responsible for Australian operations and development activities for Hydrostor. Greg has had an extensive career in renewable energy, with previous roles including the Executive General Manager of Energy Made Clean and Chief Operating Officer of Carnegie Clean Energy.
