Corporate PPAs - A New Way of Managing Electricity Price Risk - Dan Brown, Partner, DLA Piper

Venue: DLA Piper, Level 9, 480 Queen St, Brisbane, QLD 4000 (enter via Adelaide St)

Date: Wed 14 Mar 2018 @ 5:45pm to 7:30pm

Despite growing policy uncertainty, the development of renewables projects is gaining pace in the Australian market.  One of the key challenges for developers is securing a Power Purchase Agreement on suitable terms.  After a flurry of Power Purchase Agreements being signed by many of the major retailers, developers are now looking to corporate entities to offtake energy from their projects.

This presentation will dive into the structure of Power Purchase Agreements and examine the rise of Corporate Power Purchase Agreements in the Australian market.

Dan is a Partner of global law firm DLA Piper.  He took an unusual path to the law spending 5 years working as an electrician with BHP and Anglo American at their Bowen Basin coal mines.  Dan's primary focus is on the development of renewables projects in Australia and Asia.

Recent transactions Dan has worked on include:

  • Equis Energy's 110MW Tailem Bend Solar PV Project, 100 MW Tailem II Solar PV Project; 115 MW Collinsville North Solar PV Project and the 1GW Wandoan Solar PV Project;
  • Altura Group's 220MW Goat Hill Pumped Hydro Project;
  • Kwiana Waste to Energy Project in Western Australia;
  • 120MW Lockyer Gas-Fired Power Project;
  • Woolworths on their Corporate Power Purchase Agreement strategy and their behind the meter rooftop Solar PV projects; and
