Perth - A Global Energy Transition

Venue: Parmelia Hilton Hotel, 14 Mill Street, Perth, WA 6000

Date: Wed 21 Feb 2018 @12:00pm to 2:00pm

Abundant renewable energy sources and natural gas provide massive opportunities and risks for Western Australia in the transition to a new energy environment. Falling costs for renewable sources and storage technologies combined with national policy responses create a new paradigm for energy markets. Australia is committed to the Paris Agreement and this has profound implications for energy production and use.

This seminar presented by two internationally recognised scientists will look at the implications of meeting the Paris Agreement and the potential for the changing natural gas market in this State.

Dr Bill Hare

Founder and CEO of Climate Analytics and Adjunct Professor at Murdoch University, School of Engineering and Information Technology. Bill is a physicist and climate scientist with more than 30 years of international experience in science, impacts, and policy responses to climate change, most recently in the negotiation and implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Dr Ursula Fuentes Hutfilter

Senior Policy Adviser at Climate Analytics and Adjunct Associate Professor at Murdoch University, School of Engineering and Information Technology.

Ursula was Department Head in the German Federal Environment Ministry responsible for the German National Climate plan. Ursula will discuss the Australian-German Energy Transition Research Hub node at Murdoch University.
