Sydney - YEP Mount Piper Power Station Tour

Venue: Mount Piper Power Station, Boulder Road, Blackmans Flat, NSW 2790

Date: Sat 24 Feb 2018 @ 11:15am arrival for an 11:30am tour start, expected tour completion 12:45pm

Young Energy Professionals are invited on a day trip to Mount Piper coal fired power station in the Central West region, 25 kilometres from Lithgow.  Please note that this event is an opportunity for Young Energy Professionals (members up to and including 35 years of age) to network and kick off the year.

Built in 1992 and 1993, the two 700MW turbines are powered by black coal from the local region. This tour is an exciting opportunity to explore the plant with an Energy Australia guide. The tour is expected to include a visit to the roof, control room, boiler and cooling tours, with plenty of opportunity for questions!

The tour will commence at the power station at 11:30am, please arrive by 11:15am.

An optional bus service is available which will depart Central Station at 8:00am (please arrive by 7:45am), however additional charges apply and you must have fully registered by COB on 15th February if you wish to travel via the bus.

The order of events for the day are as follows:

  • 11:15am arrive at Mount Piper Power Station
  • 11:30am tour commences
  • 12:45pm tour ends
  • 1:15pm optional group lunch in Lithgow (venue to be confirmed, lunch self funded)

For those wishing to travel via bus, please note the additional times:

  • 7:45am meet at Central Station
  • 8:00am bus departs Central Station
  • 9:30am coffee stop in Leura
  • Tour and lunch
  • 3:00pm bus departs Lithgow for Sydney
  • 6:00pm bus arrives at Central Station

Please wear enclosed footwear as you will be unable to participate in the tour otherwise. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided and must be worn on the tour.

Please note that no cameras or bags are to be taken on site. Further, please be aware that during the tour you will be subjected to heights of approximately 85 meters and possible loud noises.
