YEP-SA 2018 Lunch & Learn Series – Session Three – ElectraNet – Proposed SA/NSW Electricity Interconnector
Date: Fri 28 Sep 2018 @ 12.00pm to 2.00pm
BRADLEY HARRISON, PRINCIPAL ENERGY MARKET ANALYST, ELECTRANET
ElectraNet recently released a draft report on its investigation into options to facilitate South Australia’s energy transformation, while improving system security and helping to lower electricity prices. The report identified that the construction of a new high capacity interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales would deliver substantial benefits to customers.
The new 330 kV line between Robertstown in South Australia’s mid-north and Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, via Buronga, would deliver net market benefits of about $1 billion over 21 years. Focusing specifically on power prices, independent modelling by ACIL Allen estimates that annual residential electricity bills would reduce by up to about $30 in South Australia and $20 in New South Wales. Interconnection with New South Wales would also enable South Australia to increase wind and solar energy production and export it into the national market.
Bradley Harrison, ElectraNet’s Principal Energy Market Analyst, played an important role in the Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) that identified the benefits of a new interconnector. Bradley will talk through the RIT-T assessment to date, the recommended interconnector solution and the project’s next steps.
