Dr Wendy Craik is the Executive Director of the National Farmers’ Federation. Appointed in September 1995, Dr Craik provides political and policy advice to NFF’s Council on a wide range of national and international issues affecting agriculture. Prior to joining the NFF, Dr Craik worked for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority for 17 years, the last three as Executive Officer. She has extensive experience in environmental planning, management and research, policy development, strategic and corporate planning and financial and human resource management.
John L Daly was born and educated in England. He went to sea at 18 and served for 8 years as a wireless operator in the merchant marine. He now teaches science in Launceston, Tasmania. He has established an internationally renowned web-site, [www.vision.net.au/~daly] described by Nature Magazine as the world’s best greenhouse sceptic’s website.
Professor Graham Farquhar FAA FRS is head of Environmental Biology at the Research School of Biological Sciences, ANU, Canberra. He has taken an active role in the debates concerning the carbon cycle and its interrelationship with biological processes, and has contributed to the IPCC processes with respect to these issues. Amongst other positions he has been chairman of the Australian Committee for the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme since 1994.
Bob Foster was General Manager Marketing with BHP Petroleum before he retired in 1992. Prior to joining BHP in 1966, he spent 10 years with Shell in Europe, Africa, North America, the Middle East and the Far East. He is currently Hon Treasurer for the Royal Society of Victoria, and consults on energy industry issues, with particular emphasis on economics and the environment.
Bob Hogg AO was National Secretary of the ALP from 1988-93 and prior to that was Principal Executive Officer from 1987-88. In 1986-87 Bob was a consultant to the Premier of Victoria and from 1983-86 was Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister. Since 1993 he has been Deputy Chairman of Singleton Group Limited and an Independent Consultant - Issues Management.
Donald McGauchie was President of the Grains Council of Australia from 1992-94 and President of the National Farmers’ Federation from 1994-98. Since 1994 he has been a member of the Trade Policy Advisory Council to Minister for Trade and on the Prime Minister’s Supermarket to Asia Council since 1996. In 1996 he was a member of the Australian Delegation to the Rome World Food Summit. Donald was a member of the Foreign Affairs White Paper Advisory Committee to the Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1996 and 1997 and has been a member of the Foreign Affairs Council since 1998. He has been an invited speaker at numerous overseas conferences and was appointed to the International Policy Council on Agriculture, Food & Trade (IPC) in 1998. Donald has also been member of the member of the Victorian Premier’s Food Industry Advisory Committee since 1993.
Hugh Morgan AO has been Managing Director of WMC Resources Ltd (formerly Western Mining Corporation) since 1986. He is currently Chairman of the Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee, President of the Australian-German Association, President of the Australian branch of the Asia Society (AustralAsia Centre) and serves on a number of other international business groups.
Alan Oxley was formerly Australian Ambassador to the GATT and
Chairman of the GATT Council. He is now a consultant on international
trade issues (Director of International Trade Strategies) and a frequent
contributor to the media.
Professor Ian Plimer FTSE FGS is Professor of Geology at the
University of Melbourne. He has written many scientific papers and published
a number of books, the most recent being The Story of Milos, which chronicles
the 10,000 year history of mining on Milos, and how the islanders have
been at the mercy of geological forces. Since 1993 he has conducted a weekly
ABC regional Radio segment called “Talking Rocks”, and his book “Written
in Stone”, is an amalgamation of these broadcasts.
The Hon Tony Staley has been Federation President of the Liberal Party since 1993 and was MHR (Liberal) for Chisholm Victoria from 1970-80. During his parliamentary career he held the positions of Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition 1973-75, Minister for the Capital Territory and Assisting the Prime Minister on Arts 1976-77 and Minister for Post and Telecommunications 1977-80.
Colin J Sutherland is General Manager of Edison Mission Energy Australia Ltd and Executive Director for the Loy Yang B Joint Venture and Kwinana Power Partnership. He was previously Chairman and Executive Director of Energy Services Australia Pty Ltd, Secretary of ASU Energy Victoria, and before that worked within the Customer Services Group of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. He was a member of the Australian Government Energy Policy Advisory Committee from 1990-1992.
