HYDROGEN ENERGY: PAST, PRESENT
AND FUTURE
BARBARA HARDY - AO, BSc, DUniv (Flinders)
I have been extremely interested in energy, its sources, production
and distribution, ever since I returned to university in 1974 to study
the earth sciences. The study of geology led me to understand that
the major energy source upon which our current civilization is based, i.e.
hydrocarbon resources – coal, oil, natural gas and their derivatives, the
non-renewable resources – is finite. Hence, petrol might not always
come out of the bowser at the service station into my vehicle – a stunning
thought for a then 47-year-old science-interested female.
What could replace hydrocarbons?
