Net-Zero 2050: The Greatest Technical Opportunity of Our Time

The second industrial revolution created rapid technological advancements, enabling unprecedented movement of people and ideas and culminating in a new wave of globalisation. Electrical power generated by fossil fuels underpinned growth in transport, construction and communications, providing the quality of life we now enjoy. However, this growth and prosperity is not without cost and the impacts of emissions are now being felt and acknowledged globally. Climate change has been touted as ‘the greatest moral challenge of our time’, but could this be our most exciting technical opportunity? Are we poised for a third industrial revolution driven by environmental management and sustainability? Come along and find out…

Christian Winterfield, winner of the AIE YEP SA Development Award 2019, will share his insights from the 2019 London Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit on ‘Net-Zero 2050’.

Christian is a mechanical and petroleum engineer with over a decade of experience in the energy industry working in oil and gas. His career spans facilities management, production optimisation and gas reservoir appraisal and development. Christian presently leads Santos’ efforts in carbon capture and storage (CCS).
